Another Thursday, not much different

I promised I would try to be honest and post each Thursday even when there is nothing much to say, so yes, this is pretty much a cut and paste from last week.

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • C&L expert panel pieces -- I'm working on finalizing my list and the designs for the individual pieces.  Once determined, each will have an entry here. I now know why I haven't settled on the couching around applique piece -- I was waiting for an exciting thing to show up.  Also, I think I've nailed down the design for the couched cord piece.
  • Class this is (mostly) done, for now. The embroidery of the sample is done just have to do the making up.
  • Marshall Hanging -- Progress!  I got some work on this.  Soon it will have its own work space in my house for much more work.
  • Hem stitched square -- This has kind of gone into hibernation in my event basket, to come out when I have just that couple of minutes to do something.
  • That silk tunic I did for my husband -- still need to pull that out and get the seam finishing done, and maybe plan some more embroidery for it.
  • Other garb waiting in the wings... Also in planning are a couple more coifs -- and shifts and shirts.
  • Research.  I've started trolling for inspirational ideas.  My Pinterest boards are overflowing with "oh, that looks cool...."
  • Event cushions.  Got that lovely red fabric, just need to make the cushions.  There's enough to make "quick" envelope style cushions AND have enough for better box cushions down  the road.... maybe.

Current project list/status (Modern)
  • Bay of Fundy Scarf.  Done -- Just have to block it and then photos will be posted.  Why, yes, it still needs to be blocked.  Maybe this upcoming long weekend.
  • Northern Lights Cowl --  I've been enjoying this one, though in the interest of getting some embroidery done it may need to be relegated to "pick it up occasionally, but only as a reward for getting some other stuff done."  Also, waiting rooms and such.
  • Clothing for work.  Can we just take it as read that I need to do this and don't know when it's going to happen?
  • Studio project. A number of things have migrated back to the studio (where, admittedly, they belong), and a few things in the studio need to come out.  I need to determine a day each month for specifically concentrating on getting everything back to where it belongs, which should help keep this room organized. This has not been happening and it really shows in many ways.
  • Future project plans: (look, a new section) AKA "In the queue"
  • Knitting plans include  fingerless gloves with more of the alpaca that I'm using on the Bay of Fundy scarf.  I also got some lovely blue silk/wool blend that I'll need to find "just the right pattern" for, not to mention a stash that does not fit in the cedar chest which is supposed to be the limiting factor on yarns...
Blog notes:
  • Still working on a three day a week pattern -- Monday for SCA/Medieval/Renaissance related; Tuesday for post 1600 to modern related and Thursdays for status updates.
  • I have started my resources page (so far it has ONE thing on it).  I hope to add one or two things a week. That page will be web resources.  A Bibliography page will have to wait until after September I think, it will be a massive undertaking.
So, that's it for my plans for the coming weeks.

Thursday, June 2, 2016

Oh, wait... Thursday.

Silly holidays -- I've been off calendar all week.  Of course, that doesn't explain why most of today I had to keep reminding myself it isn't Friday...

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • C&L expert panel pieces -- I'm working on finalizing my list and the designs for the individual pieces.  Once determined, each will have an entry here.
  • Class this is (mostly) done, for now. The embroidery of the sample is done (as reported on Monday), just have to do the making up.
  • Marshall Hanging -- This is going with me for Saturday's event, and I'm hoping to have enough done to do a post.
  • Hem stitched square -- This has kind of gone into hibernation in my event basket, to come out when I have just that couple of minutes to do something.
  • That silk tunic I did for my husband -- still need to pull that out and get the seam finishing done, and maybe plan some more embroidery for it.

  • Clothing for work.  This may have to be moved up a bit, as one of my favorite skirts just gave its last.  Now I really need to find pink fabric I like because I cannot imagine not having something in that dark rich pink in my wardrobe.  Of course, I *could* get around to doing the hem on the black and white, that would help.  Update -- got that pink fabric.... now to make it up.
  • Studio project. A number of things have migrated back to the studio (where, admittedly, they belong), and a few things in the studio need to come out.  I need to determine a day each month for specifically concentrating on getting everything back to where it belongs, which should help keep this room organized. Return of the Thursday update

Not a lot of progress to report, but I have to keep honest...

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • C&L expert panel pieces -- I'm working on finalizing my list and the designs for the individual pieces.  Once determined, each will have an entry here.
  • Class this is (mostly) done, for now. Some work done on the teaching/sample project, because I feel I have to get this off my plate.
  • Marshall Hanging -- No, nothing new.

Thursday update

I did get some knitting done in the last week, but not a whole lot else.

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Applique piece for C&L -- I may have fallen down the research rabbit hole and really need to settle on something.
  • Couched cord piece for C&L -- I have looked at a few design inspiration ideas for something to do on my husband's tunic for this element.
  • Class this is (mostly) done, for now.  I do have some more work to do on the sample and the re-write on the handout.
  • Marshall Hanging -- No, nothing new.
  • Hem stitched square -- This is officially my current "work on at events" project.  At the same event last weekend I learned some more open work, and am now deciding whether to make this square an overall open work piece or do that on something different. I learned some pulled (diverted thread) work at the Embroidery Schola in February, and this piece has a nice big central area just asking for some decoration.

Current project list/status (Modern)
  • Bay of Fundy Scarf.  Done -- Just have to block it and then photos will be posted
  • Hat for my husband.  Done.  Photos will be up soon.
  • Northern Lights Cowl -- This one is being done with a beautiful color changing yarn and is a nice simple pattern.  I did make one small change to make the counting a lot easier, and I don't know that I'll use this yarn again, but it's pleasing me, and going nice and fast.

This did not happen in January, or February, or March... Help me April, you're my only hope!
Future project plans: (look, a new section) AKA "In the queue"
  • Additional C&L work to do includes an underside couched piece (having been reminded of a thing I knew of one that is not metal thread).
  • Knitting plans include  fingerless gloves with more of the alpaca that I'm using on the Bay of Fundy scarf.  I also got some lovely blue silk/wool blend that I'll need to find "just the right pattern" for.  Also, attending Maryland Sheep & Wool this weekend will undoubtedly produce *something* new for the queue....
Blog notes:
  • Still working on a three day a week pattern -- Monday for SCA/Medieval/Renaissance related; Tuesday for post 1600 to modern related and Thursdays for status updates.
  • I'm also considering a couple other pages -- one for links to museums and other excellent web resources, and one for a bibliography (with appropriate links).  Any requests?
So, that's it for my plans for the coming weeks.

Thursday, Thursday

I really do like Thursday.  Close to the end of the week, but far enough from the weekend to believe I'll get done the things I wanted to get done before the weekend. You will notice not much has changed.... Maybe I should start putting the changes in italics or highlighted :)

Current project list/status (Modern)
  • Bay of Fundy Scarf.  A few more rows have been knit on this.  I'm enjoying it again, but will be glad when it's done.  I can tell because I've been looking at patterns and even bought some yarn and a pattern for probably my next project.

  • Knitting plans include the newly purchased pattern and yarn for a pretty wild cowl and fingerless gloves with more of the alpaca that I'm using on the Bay of Fundy scarf.  I also got some lovely blue silk/wool blend that I'll need to find "just the right pattern" for.
Blog notes:

Thursday/Friday

Today was like Friday because my office is closed tomorrow.  Also, it's been a weird week.  That said, here's my honesty:

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Applique piece for C&L -- I have jettisoned the original plan and will be looking for something new.  I finally admitted to myself (*before cutting fabric and starting, that's a plus*) that I was shoehorning one thing into another and it really wasn't a good fit.  I do have a couple other inspiration pieces to look at and some plans...
  • Couched cord piece for C&L -- I have looked at a few design inspiration ideas for something to do on my husband's tunic for this element.
  • Class this is (mostly) done, for now.  I do have some mailing out to do, and still need to write up the "finishing" section -- then I'll work on adjusting both write ups (the "fob" and the bag) for posting on a new page I'll be setting up -- "classes."
  • Marshall Hanging -- No, nothing new.
  • Hem stitched square -- This is officially my current "work on at events" project.  At the same event last weekend I learned some more open work, and am now deciding whether to make this square an overall open work piece or do that on something different. Thursday...

Posting a little late since we went out for dinner due to power issues (it's back, though)

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Applique piece for C&L -- A challenge has inspired me.  I discussed my early research and design planning in this post.  I'm very happy with my plan.  This will be an entry for the heraldry display at Mudthaw. Materials have been selected and purchased.  The whole "dive right in didn't quite happen, but I have a chunk of Sunday to myself, for some serious studio time.

  • Other garb waiting in the wings... Also in planning are a couple more coifs -- and shifts and shirts.

Current project list/status (Modern)
  • Bay of Fundy Scarf.  Got a fair amount done on my trip last weekend, and it is now my companion for work again.  I usually get in early and can put in a couple rows then, and again at lunch if not embroidering.
  • Zipper class.  This was fantastic! Talked about it yesterday.  Now to get the measurements I need and order a couple patterns.
  • Studio project. A number of things have migrated back to the studio (where, admittedly, they belong), and a few things in the studio need to come out.  I need to determine a day each month for specifically concentrating on getting everything back to where it belongs, which should help keep this room organized. Honest Thursday

Posting a little late as I take a break from gathering what I need for my trip...

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Applique piece for C&L -- A challenge has inspired me.  I discussed my early research and design planning on Monday.  I'm very happy with my plan.  This will be an entry for the heraldry display at Mudthaw. Materials have been selected and purchased, ready to dive right in when I get home from teaching this weekend.
  • Couched cord piece for C&L -- I have looked at a few design inspiration ideas for something to do on my husband's tunic for this element.
  • Class for February and March.  Teaching box is packed, kit bags are packed.  All staged up to be loaded tomorrow.  (Now I just have to gather all the "personal" stuff.....)

  • Zipper class.  On Tuesday I'm going to be taking a class just on zippers!  Once that's done I have some patterns I want to check out.
  • Studio project. A number of things have migrated back to the studio (where, admittedly, they belong), and a few things in the studio need to come out.  I need to determine a day each month for specifically concentrating on getting everything back to where it belongs, which should help keep this room organized. This has not happened in January, though I may be able to carve some time out this weekend.

Another week, another Thursday

Once again, it is Thursday.  Amazing how it keeps coming up. So, here's my "keep Elizabet honest" post:

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Applique piece for C&L -- A challenge has inspired me.  I discussed my early research and design planning on Monday.  I'm very happy with my plan.  This will be an entry for the heraldry display at Mudthaw.
  • Couched cord piece for C&L -- I have looked at a few design inspiration ideas for something to do on my husband's tunic for this element.
  • Class for February and March.  I've done a bit more of the sample stitching for this class on German Brick Stitch.   Here is more info about the March event for those who might be interested -- at that event it will be an intensive class.  Kit registration has ended and I will have three students.  Hope I can fill 3 hours! :) If anyone attends the event and wants to sit in there will be materials for the scissor fob project available as well.
  • Marshall Hanging -- No, nothing new.
  • Hem stitched square -- This is officially my current "work on at events" project.  At the same event last weekend I learned some more open work, and am now deciding whether to make this square an overall open work piece or do that on something different.
  • That silk tunic I did for my husband -- still need to pull that out and get the seam finishing done, and maybe plan some more embroidery for it.

Status report

Once again, it is Thursday.  Amazing how it keeps coming up. So, here's my "keep Elizabet honest" post:

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Project X for C&L-- Has been revealed as pelican medallions for a friend's cloak -- the "Convent Stitch" piece.  This is DONE and has been added to the DONE - Historic page.
  • Applique piece for C&L -- A challenge has inspired me.  I have my design planned out.  Not using what I originally planned to use as my inspiration piece, but I'm very happy with my plan.
Kit registration ends this weekend. I taught the one hour class again last weekend and have some ideas both for revising that a little bit and for the big class.  On the wind up for that now.

  • Clothing for work.  Guess what, that hem still hasn't been done.  On the other hand, I've found a website with some patterns that have me kind of excited.  Mostly they take zippers.  Here's the thing, I have never been happy with my zipper work.  However....

A late Thursday post....

Today is my Friday since I have tomorrow off, so of course I forgot to do my "keeping honest" post.  Here it is:

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Project X for C&L-- Has been revealed as pelican medallions for a friend's cloak -- the "Convent Stitch" piece.  This is DONE and was the subject of Monday's post. It will be on the DONE page probably next week since I'm working on stuff for teaching.
  • Applique piece for C&L -- A challenge has inspired me.  There will be more on this next week.
Kit registration has been extended.  I taught the smaller version last weekend, have revised the handout a little bit and am working on the materials to teach it this coming weekend.
  • Marshall Hanging -- No, nothing new.
  • Hem stitched square -- This is officially my current "work on at events" project.
  • That silk tunic I did for my husband -- still need to pull that out and get the seam finishing done, and maybe plan some more embroidery for it.
  • Other garb waiting in the wings... Also in planning are a couple more coifs -- and shifts and shirts.

Current project list/status (Modern)
  • Bay of Fundy Scarf.  The slightly over half done scarf is patiently waiting for its time to return.  Gift knitting is done and this may get to return to rotation soon, though I'm pretty embroidery-focused right now. It will be my car companion for the upcoming trip to Massachusetts.
  • Clothing for work.  Guess what, that hem still hasn't been done.  On the other hand, I've found a website with some patterns that have me kind of excited.  Mostly they take zippers.  Here's the thing, I have never been happy with my zipper work.  However....

Thursday again

Happy Thursday.  Plenty of stitching, but not actually a lot of progress:

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Project X for C&L -- the "Convent Stitch" piece.  Outlines are done and the figures have been filled in on one of the two motifs.  Finished the first motif with only one change of thread.
  • Couched cord piece for C&L -- Nothing new.
  • Applique piece for C&L -- Nothing new.
  • Class for February and March.  I've done a bit more of the sample stitching for this class on German Brick Stitch.   Here is more info about the March event for those who might be interested -- at that event it will be an intensive class.  However, I'm also teaching it twice in February as a smaller class, at this event and this event.

And back for a status report

Prepping for a party (which was then cancelled) and digging out too entirely too much of my time ... but here I am back with a status report.  Regular Monday and Tuesday posts should resume next week.

Current project list/status (SCA/Historic):
  • Project X for C&L -- the "Convent Stitch" piece.  Outlines are done and the figures have been filled in on one of the two motifs.  On the background now.  The client has seen and likes the piece. Moving nice and quickly.
Picking up materials this weekend for the two shorter February classes.
  • Motifs for coronation cloaks (different coronation) -- I am officially taking this off the list.

Current project list/status (Modern)
  • Bay of Fundy Scarf.  The slightly over half done scarf is patiently waiting for its time to return.  Gift knitting is done and this may get to return to rotation soon, though I'm pretty embroidery-focused right now.
  • Clothing for work.  Guess what, that hem still hasn't been done.  On the other hand, I've found a website with some patterns that have me kind of excited.  Mostly they take zippers.  Here's the thing, I have never been happy with my zipper work.  However....

Blog notes:
  • Still working on a three day a week pattern -- Monday for SCA/Medieval/Renaissance related; Tuesday for post 1600 to modern related and Thursdays for status updates.
  • I've continued work on the "DONE" pages and will try to maintain them a little better.
  • I'm also considering a couple other pages -- one for links to museums and other excellent web resources, and one for a bibliography (with appropriate links).  Any requests?
So, that's it for my plans for the coming weeks.
